Alright, let’s dive into this whole shebang with Trump and his power moves.
So, there’s this poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, and guess what it shows? A lot of folks think President Trump is kind of pushing it with how he’s running the show. Nearly half of the Americans surveyed reckon he’s got too much power. But here’s the kicker - when it comes to the judges and the courts, most people feel they’re just doing their thing, nothing extra. Only about 3 out of 10 people think the judges are getting too bossy.
Now, the Republican crowd? They see things a bit differently. About half of them feel like it’s actually the courts that are getting too big for their boots, not Trump. Only 2 in 10 Republicans think the president is a bit too power-hungry.
So what’s Trump been up to? Well, the dude has been busy. He’s been firing off executive orders left and right, really stretching what it means to be president. He’s trying to yank some power away from Congress, especially around how money gets spun, and he doesn’t shy away from standing up to court rulings that don’t go his way. He’s even had the Justice Department chase down his foes, leaned on lawyers he doesn’t like, and dangled the threat of federal heat to get people to fall in line.
Mostly, it’s the courts that have had to step in and say, "Hold up, buddy," while the Congress, which Republicans run, hasn’t really put up much of a fight against Trump. When it comes to how much juice Congress has, only about 3 in 10 Americans think they’ve got too much, and Democrats are quite chill about the power of the federal courts with only 17% thinking it’s too much.
On the flip side, the conservative-leaning Supreme Court seems to sit well with a lot of Republicans. Only about a quarter of them think it’s too muscly, while a third of Democrats feel it’s a bit much.
About 60% of adults think Trump has crossed the line with how he wields his presidential powers. This feeling is mainly brewing among Democrats and independents. As for the Republicans, about a quarter think he’s overdone it, but most are okay with the level of his power play, and a few even think he should push harder.
"It’s like he’s doing stuff no president has done before," says Brie Horshaw, this esthetician from LA who’s not really feeling Trump’s vibe. "The man’s got too much power. It’s out of the usual presid...
